Privacy Policy

Birth details are personal in a way most sign-up forms are not. This page says exactly what we collect, who else sees it, and how to make us delete it.
Who this is about
This policy applies to AstroMitra at https://www.astromitra.app, operated by AstroMitraApp. Questions about it go to help@astromitra.app.
What we collect
Birth details
Your name, date of birth, time of birth (if you know it), and place of birth. These are the whole basis of the service — without them there is no chart to read. From them we compute and store your planetary positions, Rashi, Nakshatra, Lagna and dasha periods.
Your birth place is stored as a city, with its latitude, longitude and time zone. We do not track your live location.
Your questions and answers
Everything you type into a chat, and everything the service replies. These are stored so your conversation is still there when you come back.
Account details
- Name, and email address if you create a full account
- Phone number and gender, only if you choose to add them
- Your language and time zone preference
- A password, stored only as a one-way hash — we cannot read it
You can start using the service without an email address at all. We ask for one only when there is a reason — a paid reading has to be sent somewhere.
Technical information
- An anonymous visitor identifier stored in a cookie, so a visit can be joined to a signup
- Your IP address and browser user-agent, recorded against payments for fraud checks
- Basic usage events — pages opened, chats started — used to understand the funnel
What we do not collect
- Card numbers, UPI IDs or bank details. Payment details are entered on the payment gateway's own page and never reach our servers.
- Contacts, photos, files or anything else from your device.
- Your location.
Who else sees your data
The AI provider
Readings are generated by a large language model operated by a third party — currently OpenAI and/or Anthropic, both based in the United States. To produce a reading, we send them your computed chart placements, the topic you asked about, and your question. This means your birth chart and your questions leave India and are processed abroad.
We do not send them your name, email address, phone number or payment details. We do not permit them to use your data to train their models.
The payment gateway
Payments are processed by Razorpay. They receive the amount, an order reference, and whatever you enter on their payment page. We receive back a payment identifier, the method used and the status — never your card or account numbers.
Hosting
Our servers and database, which hold everything described above.
Analytics
If enabled, Google Analytics receives the pages you view and general technical information (browser, device type, approximate location from your IP). This is used in aggregate to understand which pages are useful and where the funnel loses people. It does not receive your name, your birth details, your questions, or anything you type into a chat.
Nobody else
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, insurers or employers, beyond the aggregate analytics described above. We would disclose it if compelled by a valid legal order, and not otherwise.
How long we keep it
- If you start a chat but never ask anything, and never add an email address, the account is deleted automatically after 30 days.
- Otherwise we keep your chart and conversations while your account exists, because that is what makes them there when you return.
- Payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after an account is deleted.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what we hold about you
- Correct anything wrong — you can edit your birth details yourself at any time
- Delete your account and its data
- Withdraw consent, which means we stop processing and delete
Write to help@astromitra.app and we will act within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Cookies
Two of our own: one to keep you signed in, and one anonymous visitor identifier that lets us tell a returning visitor from a new one.
If Google Analytics is enabled on this site, it sets its own cookies
(typically named _ga and similar) to distinguish visitors and
sessions. We do not run advertising cookies, and we do not use Google
Analytics data to build advertising profiles or sell it to anyone.
Children
This service is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
Security, honestly stated
Passwords are hashed, API keys are encrypted at rest, payments are verified twice on our servers before anything is unlocked, and access to production data is limited to those who need it. No service can promise it will never be breached, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach affects you, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so on the site rather than quietly editing the page.
Grievances
Grievance contact: help@astromitra.app. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days, as required by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
